Beacon

Introduction

What Beacon is, who it's for, and how the pieces fit together.

Beacon is a light, branded documentation and changelog starter for indie SaaS and product teams. It pairs an MDX docs site — sidebar, search, and an auto-generated “on this page” table of contents — with a first-class, dated and tagged release feed that ships with RSS out of the box.

It’s built on Astro 5 and Tailwind v4, outputs a fully static site, and has no runtime, no database, and no platform to rent. You own the content and the markup.

Why Beacon

Most docs tools force a tradeoff: either a heavyweight hosted platform you pay monthly for, or a generic theme that looks like every other site on the internet. Beacon takes a third path.

  • One fearless color. A single --color-brand token re-skins the entire site. No dark-mode tax — Beacon is light by design.
  • Content that builds itself. Drop an MDX file in src/content/docs, declare its group and order, and the sidebar, search index, and prev/next navigation all update automatically.
  • A changelog people actually read. Releases are first-class content with colored type badges, tag chips, and an RSS feed.
